"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Mark Twain
A true sportsman with 5 years experience in telecommunication. Without doubt the coach of our team.
"In China , 2004 is the year of the monkey. This means that conditions are good for a comfortable year. As the Monkey is deemed to be a lucky creature, well able to make the most of opportunities which present themselves. Marco Polo by bike is one of these great opportunities you just can't let go. It's a trip I have been dreaming about for the past ten years. This trip is a great adventure with three very close friends.
F ive years ago I started working for a telecom/internet company. Most of the time I plan my 3/4 weeks active holiday's somewhere in the mountains in or outside Europe . With friends we make sure we combine the holiday with some activities like cycling or climbing. Six years ago I went away for 8 months travelling around. And it taught me, that being away for a long period is totally different than a 4 weeks holiday. During my live I have been active in many sports. But I am concentrating mostly on ice hockey, cycling and soccer. Things like beautiful sceneries (mountain ranges, deserts , .. ), effects of globalisation, meeting different people and different cultures are elements of my interest.
That's why this trip is so great, it will give us a very close experience of all those elements mentioned above.
Although I will miss my family, friends, team mates, colleagues, Amsterdam, this 7 months cycling trip with Jannus , Michiel , Olivier and Tiejo will be a great challenge and a big big adventure.
p.s : I hope I can show off my rear wheel to the boys"
